We Must Protect and Defend Our Freedom
First Vice Chairman, Michael Jack
Today we celebrate the 243rd birthday of these great United States. But it is more than just a birthday. It is the 243rd anniversary of an independence movement that is still going strong. [rml_read_more] This movement for the good of the people, has had a profoundly positive affect on the individual lives of everyone living on earth today as well as those who came before us. It was a miraculous day when “We the People” took that courageous first step, and created our Declaration of Independence. Our Founding Fathers, who were probably the greatest assemblage of intelligence, courage, integrity, inspiration, and patriotism to ever occur in our nation’s history, crafted and signed the document that started it all.
Yesterday Lt. Col Allen West, in his announcement declaring his candidacy for Chairman of the Republican Party of the great State of Texas, encouraged all of us to take a moment during our celebrating to read the Declaration of Independence and ponder what the Founders, who risked everything for freedom, truly meant when they wrote it. I too encourage you to do the same. In doing so, pay particular attention to the second paragraph, which reads in part,
“We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal,
that they are endowed, by the CREATOR, with certain unalienable Rights,
that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”
I believe this paragraph was their platform; the basis for all we stand for today. I especially appreciate this passage because it declares the often-little recognized fact that individual rights are superior to the rights of government or the collective. Ever since that day in 1776, and especially after the ratification of the Constitution, written to establish a government to support this platform, both foreign and domestic forces have worked tirelessly to undermine and destroy the notion of individual rights. How many times have politicians on both sides of the political spectrum been quoted saying, “These people are too stupid to govern themselves.” Their choice is collectivism, the body ruled by the “enlightened elite.” Their choice is man’s wisdom over our Creator’s.
As Republicans we are the tip of the sword defending the platform of our Founding Fathers. In Washoe County we are faced with a blue cloud of socialism coming from the west. It is time for all conservatives to enjoin the battle. Each of us needs to personally take the same oath the President and every member of the military takes, “To protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic.” This means we must do more than just vote the right way. It means we must get involved, because if we don’t, we will see more and more of our rights and liberties impinged upon by an increasingly overreaching government at all levels. If we don’t protect our rights, the collectivists win.
Enjoy today’s celebrations and what this day stands for, and then let’s get to work saving our way of life.
